Mika Takahashi
(a.k.a. MIKADana)
高橋美夏
Graphic designer and Web designer
After graduating from high school, I wanted to help enliven my hometown, Ibusuki-shi, Kagoshima, Japan, so I studied web design and graphic design on my own, hoping to be able to undertake the production of flyers and websites for individual business owners and companies in Ibusuki-shi. During that time, I was originally good at writing, so I accepted writing jobs through crowdsourcing, and before I knew it, I was able to create works in both graphic and web aspects, including design, coding, writing, and WordPress.
My strength is that I am a serious person, as acknowledged by others, and my maternal grandmother’s favorite saying, “Work quickly and neatly,” has become my motto in my work without me realizing it. Since I have studied on my own for many years, if there is something I do not understand, I immediately look it up myself and try to work hard until I can do it. I also always make sure to input new information, for example, I make sure to watch the Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, and Tony Awards on TV every year, and try to catch the latest trends overseas.
Born in 1982 (Showa 57). Graduated from Kagoshima Prefectural Ibusuki High School General Course. I am qualified as a color coordinator (standard class) and hold the EIKEN Grade 2 certificate. I started designing when I was in junior high school, after being impressed by the cover of PIZZICATO FIVE’s album “HAPPY END OF THE WORLD” by Mitsuo Shindo. Other designers I like are Shin Sobue, Tadanori Yokoo, Hisui Sugiura, and Goyo Hashiguchi. I also like looking at Kandinsky’s paintings, and I always want to create works that have the same rhythm as him.
I have a contract with Fontworks’ “LETS” instead of Morisawa, because I thought that Fontworks’ fonts would go better with the designs I create. It’s quite difficult to describe my own design in one word, but when I had my work and profile published in the yearbook “Japan Creators” for the first time in 2023, the publisher commented that my design was “warm and full of emotion,” which left a strong impression on me, and I still value this when I create designs.
I like the history of advertising and design, and I am good at Japanese-style and retro designs. The origin of the shop name “MIKADana” comes from the fact that foreigners have difficulty pronouncing “Takahashi,” so they combined my name “MIKA,” which is understood overseas, with “Dana,” which means “big store,” in the hope of prospering business.
